Are you a die-hard musician/recording artist who wants to own all of your own recordings? If so then I suggest that you do-it all yourself.
The Do-It-Yourself Recording Artist is always looking for ways to improve the ways he or she makes, market and monetize music. If you can find it in your budget and have some time on your hands try to attend songwriting/musician workshops and seminars which will give you opportunities to meet and collaborate with other serious independent songwriters. These workshops and seminars can give you valuable insight about effective strategies on how to target new fans online, run social media ad campaigns, build an email list and to get your songs placed onto several playlists. Also, there are specialty seminars that teach you how to put your entire music catalog to work by collecting revenue from content ID, streaming, sync licensing and more. It’s also a chance to get your music into the hands of industry professionals.
I have read articles, blogs and reviews of artists from all over the world and a lot of them have concerns about earning a potential income from their music in the current market. Many independent and underground artists are under monetized which usually means that only a small portion of their rights are set up properly to generate and collect music revenue.
If you are serious about your music career and want to earn income from your music then you have to set your goal to more than getting your music onto Spotify. You never know where your next song can take you and you never know where success might come from. Success could come from being played on Pandora, a sync placement in film or TV , a streaming playlist, content ID on YouTube or services like Amazon or Google that are changing the way people engage with music. Invest in yourself! Gain knowledge, make industry connections, and move closer to your goals.
